Forensic Entomology Lab is located at Forensic Science Programme (UKM Forensics), Faculty of Health Sciences, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi. Although it was just recently developed and found its home in early 2017, forensic entomology teaching, research and consultation by UKM Forensics have already begun since 2006 at UKM Kuala Lumpur Campus. In the beginning, we worked closely with our colleagues from Biomedical Science Programme from the same faculty and the Department of Medical Entomology and Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, UKM. And now, since the facility is permanently located in Bangi, we are working closely and collaborating with Centre for Insect Systematics, Faculty of Science and Technology, UKM, on academics, data sharing and technical expertise in entomology.

Selamat datang ke Lalatologi! Ya, ia segalanya mengenai lalat! Lalat adalah kumpulan serangga bersayap Order Diptera dan boleh ditemui hampir di mana-mana. Boleh dikatakan lalat adalah kumpulan serangga yang paling dominan di bumi kerana memiliki kepelbagaian ekologi dan morfologi. Majoriti larva lalat (ulat atau berenga) hidup membiak dan memakan sisa-sisa organik yang reput menjadikan mereka organisma pengurai semula jadi yang penting, termasuklah kumpulan lalat yang hidup pada mayat dan bangkai. Sifat ini amat berguna dalam siasatan forensik kerana ia boleh dijadikan rujukan untuk menganggar waktu kematian dan bidang profesional ini dikenali sebagai entomologi forensik. Di Lalatologi, anda dapat melihat dengan lebih dekat dunia lalat forensik serta warna-warni diversiti lalat, aktiviti-aktiviti penyelidikan entomologi forensik di Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia serta maklumat-maklumat am mengenai lalat. Yes, it is all about flies! (in Malay, lalat=flies; logi=logy, a suffix “a study of”). Flies are winged insects from Order Diptera and can be discovered almost everywhere. They can be considered as the most dominant group of insects on earth because of their ecological and morphological diversity. Majority of fly larvae (maggots) are important as natural decomposers because they breed and feed on decaying organic materials, including cadavers and carcasses. This behavior can be very useful in forensic investigations as it can be utilized to estimate the time of death – a professional field of study known as forensic entomology.
