A preliminary geometric morphometric assessment of two forensically important blow fly larvae in Malaysia, Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius) and Chrysomya rufifacies (Macquart) (Diptera: Calliphoridae). Serangga 24(1): 70-79. Geometric morphometric analysis has been recently utilized as practical solution to visualize variations in...
Introducing four new Megaselia species form UKM Bangi, Selangor i.e. Megaselia bangiensis, Megaselia cumpapillarum, Megaselia hyplongiseta & Megaselia selangorensis. These new species were collected from rabbit carcasses during my PhD research and specifically found at the Forensic Science Simulation Site in...
Contamination of potato dextrose agar (PDA) by Megaselia scalaris (Diptera:Phoridae) The presence of M. scalaris on PDA indicates this species could thrive in this agar but further investigations are required to determine its origin....
Yes, it is all about flies! (in Malay, lalat=flies; logi=logy, a suffix “a study of”). Flies are winged insects from Order Diptera and can be discovered almost everywhere. They can be considered as the most dominant group of insects on earth because of their ecological and morphological diversity. Majority of fly larvae (maggots) are important as natural decomposers because they breed and feed on decaying organic materials, including cadavers and carcasses. This behavior can be very useful in forensic investigations as it can be utilized to estimate the time of death – a professional field of study known as forensic entomology. At Lalatologi, discover the world of forensic flies and other colorful diversity of flies, forensic entomology research activities at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and general information about flies!
